This is not only short sighted, it is false.
Only in a free society believing is up to you.
In a brainwashed theocratic society every person is literally indoctrinated since from the childhood so that a teached materia becomes an almost inseparable part of your identity, doesn't matter what perverted teaching we are talking about. Indoctrination is indoctrination, especially in societies where the individuals are not trained to make up their own opinion, but are brainwashed since from the childhood in a way that makes them accept even the most evident and most brutal distortion of truth as the true truth.
